COMMITTEES
Smaller groups of members appointed by the Constituent Assembly to conduct preliminary research and deliberate on specific aspects of the Constitution.

CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY
A 389-member body responsible for drafting India’s Constitution who came from diverse social, economic and political backgrounds.

CONGRESS ASSEMBLY PARTY
An unofficial forum consisting of Assembly members belonging to the Indian National Congress that met on the side-lines of the Assembly.

Trade Unions/ Associations

A significant set of petitioners to the Constituent Assembly were trade unions and associations formed around shared economic interests. These included the Rajpoothana Pranthiya Kisan Sabha, the Non-Gazetted Government Officers’ Association, and the All India Federation of Ministerial Services Association. This collection features their petitions, which largely demand socio-economic redistribution, labour rights, and political representation.

This petition was submitted by the East Punjab High Court Bar Association, and contains suggestions regarding the Supreme Court's jurisdiction over civil appeals and criminal appeals.

Petition - South Kanara District Council

17 April 1948

This petition was submitted by the South Kanara District Council of the All-India Manufacturers' Organisation, requesting that industrial interests be given special representation in the legislative bodies under the constitution.

Petition - Bombay Provincial Federation of Ministerial Services Association

2 March 1948

This petition was submitted by a Poona-based trade association of government servants from the Ministerial services, requesting that a seat be reserved for the services in the dominion and provincial legislatures.
