The drafting of the Constitution of India, 1950, is often viewed through the debates of the Constituent Assembly and its sub-committees. Yet, the Assembly also received thousands of petitions from individuals, groups, and associations. These petitions reflect an overlooked form of public engagement with constitution-making and are seen by some as evidence of ‘popular constitutionalism’. This Petitions archive features around 3,000 documents, including submissions to the Assembly and official responses where available.
