COMMITTEES

CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY
A 389-member body responsible for drafting India’s Constitution who came from diverse social, economic and political backgrounds.

CONGRESS ASSEMBLY PARTY
An unofficial forum consisting of Assembly members belonging to the Indian National Congress that met on the side-lines of the Assembly.

This volume contains the first 11 sittings of the Constituent Assembly Debates. The Assembly elected its permanent Chairman and constituted important Assembly Committees. A majority of the debates in this volume revolved around the Objectives resolution moved by Jawaharlal Nehru.

11 DEBATES

09 Dec 1946 This was the historic first sitting of the Constituent Assembly of India. The Assembly elected Sachchidananda Sinha as its temporary Chairman, who proceeded to give the Chairman's Inaugural Address.
10 Dec 1946 This was the second sitting of the first session. Members deliberated on the method of electing a permanent Chairman and other procedural matters.
